Environmentally Friendly Services

Data Centres currently count for around 1% of the total world energy consumption*. With the Internet growing at a rapid pace Rockford IT has looked to improve energy efficiency, to help towards the environment as well as keeping costs as low as possible for its customers. And it's hard work has been recognised, becoming finalists for 'Best Green Business' in the Shropshire Business Awards 2009.

This page details what has been done by Rockford to ensure that its service offerings won’t cost the earth.

Data Centre

  • Virtual hosting platforms. Rockford’s use of virtualisation cuts down on the amount of physical hardware needed, saving power and maintenance, but still keeping the same high standards of service for its customers. For further details on the virtualisation offerings please contact Rockford IT.
  • Cabling. All cables within Rockford's facility are managed to the highest standard to keep air flow and the centre cool with the least amount of energy.
  • Replace old hardware in server racks and reduce unnecessary clutter. By doing so, this saves on the power consumption needed to cool the Rockford data centre, with the use of the most up to date hardware and free space for cool air to circulate easily.
  • Using renewable sources for power. Rockford has ensured that all electricity throughout the office and it’s data centre is supplied by renewable sources.

Carbon Offsetting

Rockford IT has committed to a tree planting campaign which helps remove CO2 from the environment and helps Rockford IT offer a carbon neutral hosting solution for its customers.

  • Rockford has committed to plant 60 trees this year alone, through the Trees 4 Business Campaign from Carbon Managers. As each tree absorbs around a tonne of CO2 over its lifetime, as well as helping to cool the earth’s temperature, the commitment to plant 60 trees this year alone will make a remarkable difference in Rockford’s carbon output as a whole.
  • The trees will be planted in the Alladale Wilderness Reserve in Scotland; a pioneering ecology project north of Inverness. For further details or to view Rockford’s commitment in the public register visit http://www.carbonmanagers.com/treeregister.

  • UTM Appliances. Rockford offers customers WatchGuard Unified Threat Management appliances, which combine Web Filtering, Antivirus & Intrusion Prevention in a complete solution, saving on the number of physical hardware appliances needed (materials & packaging) and on power consumption.
  • Highly effective anti spam system. Reports suggest that the cost of dealing with spam email is a significant energy drain of up to 33 terawatt hours of power per year. Rockford offers a spam filtering system which helps reduce this energy consumption as well as saving its customers valuable time and money.
